This decanter is specially made to separate the sediment from the wine and to allow the wine to breath, which enhances the taste. The decanter has a nice shape with a flared neck that also serves as a pouring spout, so you will have a precise control when pouring the wine. This carafe is made from special Tritan® Crystal glass, which makes the decanter virtually shatter-proof and scratch-resistant. In order to elongate and maintain the quality decanter, it should not be put in the dishwasher.

The secret of etch-resistant glassware

The Schott Zwiesel Tritan technology is not very widely known in the UK but deserves to be. When other manufacturers state that their glassware is dishwasher proof they don't usually mean resistant to etching, which tends to occur eventually over time. However, the S-Z glasses really do stay clear. I know because I've owned glasses like these for several years. This most recent purchase is to replace my remaining non-S-Z glasses. Highly recommended!
